At 85, having witnessed one third of American history, I retain my hope of giving back to readers what I have received from so many who are still alive in my memory.
I have been continuously enriched sharing the lives of inarticulate people for whom I feel a passionate compulsion to give voice.
I believe you will find, reading my books, I celebrate human resilience describing characters who were able to react appropriately to violent change, learn from experience, recover, and then go on with their lives, strengthened by what they have survived.
