WILLIAM SAROYAN

"One of the most important things a man can learn is how to be alone.
How to defeat loneliness. There is a great difference between being lonely and alone.
One must learn not to permit loneliness to use him -- but must learn how to use it!
Man must have hooks inside himself on which to hang things he can take down and use when being lonely.

The knowledge and escape from himself found in books, in music, in the ability to see landscapes, trees, the sky.

Man need never be afraid of being alone."
